Celtics' Jrue Holiday to Spurs in Free Agency?

The San Antonio Spurs could look to sign Boston Celtics star guard Jrue Holiday in free agency if he declines his player option.

The San Antonio Spurs will look towards the free agency market for a point guard this summer, and they may be able to snag one of the league's best ... if he opts out of his current deal.

Bleacher Report suggests that the Spurs should look into the idea of signing Boston Celtics guard Jrue Holiday this offseason.

"San Antonio might be able to get [Holiday] while keeping Johnson and Devin Vassell. He'd also give the team a reliable, championship-winning creator to set Wemby up," Bleacher Report writes. "An outside-inside combination with he and Wembanyama on defense would be nightmarish for opponents too."

Holiday, 33, is averaging 13.1 points, 5.9 rebounds and 4.8 assists per game this season in his first year with the Celtics, who hold the league's best record at 43-12 going into the All-Star Break.

Holiday has a $37 million player option, but if he performs well in the postseason and wins a championship with the Celtics, perhaps he would be willing to move on from Boston before signing his final major deal in the NBA.

Signing with the Spurs would certainly take Holiday away from the grind of playing for a contender, but competing alongside Victor Wembanyama would be a unique opportunity for the veteran guard.

Similar to how the Houston Rockets signed Fred VanVleet to a big contract in a rebuild, the Spurs could do the same. And adding Holiday will elevate the entire Spurs team as a whole.

The question isn't the fit in San Antonio, but the ball is certainly in Holiday's court as to whether or not he would want to join the Spurs.
