Warriors' Draymond Green Declares Spurs' Victor Wembanyama Better than Chet Holmgren
When the San Antonio Spurs beat the Oklahoma City Thunder on February 29, the Rookie of the Year race ended. Victor Wembanyama led the Spurs with 28 points, 13 rebounds, and seven assists, and his fifth block, on Chet Holmgren, iced the game.
Holmgren had a good game, adding 23 points and seven blocks, but having his shot stifled by Wembanyama in the midrange in the fourth quarter made one thing clear to everyone watching: Wembanyama is just a different animal.
Draymond Green of the Golden State Warriors agrees, and he knows excellence when he sees it. A four-time All-Star, eight-time All-Defensive selection, and former Defensive Player of the Year, he won championships alongside Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, and Kevin Durant. Despite his in-your-face demeanor, he does know the ball better than anyone, and he weighed in.
"I know there's been this comparison amongst those two," said Green on his podcast. "They're both super tall and lanky, they both block shots great, they both can shoot the ball, they both can put it on the floor, Chet Holmgren is going to be a problem...but I will tell you, I think there's a gap in between Chet Holmgren and Victor Wembanyama."
Anyone who watches the NBA knows that Holmgren is one of the brightest young talents in the league and will surely be a multi-time All-Star, but Wembanyama is already the face of the league in Europe and is coming for the crown in America.
"Victor Wembanyama is just different," continued Green. "Chet is different too, don't get me wrong, but there's levels to players in this league...Victor Wembanayam is so good."
Can Spurs Beat Last Year's Record After Loss vs. Rockets?
Green is one of the smartest players in the league, so his recognizing Wembanyama's talents this early in his career just adds to the hype that Spurs fans should be feeling for the coming years.
