'I Was Proud of Them!' Gregg Popovich Praises Spurs After Win at Home

The San Antonio Spurs won their first game back home after a nine-game road trip.

Best Spurs game of the season? Fans seem to think so after Victor Wembanyama and the San Antonio Spurs toppled the Oklahoma City Thunder, which is the second-best team in the West.

Devin Vassell and Wembanyama both had 28 points, and Chet Holmgren is firmly in second place for the Rookie of the Year award. All around, the Spurs played well, with flashes from Tre Jones, Jeremy Sochan, and Zach Collins.

After the game, coach Gregg Popovich just seemed relieved to have watched gritty, intelligent, and high-effort basketball.

“We got a lot of points off the turnovers in the first half," said Popovich. "I think we had eight turnovers in the first half and they got 17 points. How do you get 17 Points off eight turnovers? But they were live-ball turnovers."

The Spurs gave up 34 points off turnovers to the Utah Jazz on Sunday, so seeing the tide shift was refreshing. The Spurs shared the ball well, with Devin Vassell leading the way. His nine dimes were a career-high, and he only turned the ball over once.

"The 39 assists were great" Popovich continued.  "I was proud of them. It's been a long Rodeo Road Trip."

The Spurs have one more game at the Frost Bank Center before hitting the road again for three games. After that, San Antonio will host eight straight games.

The season series with the Thunder is now 1-2, and the Spurs will have a chance to tie it all up on April 10th, near the end of the season.
