NBA Free Agency: 76ers' Georges Niang to Spurs?
The San Antonio Spurs could look to sign an under-the-radar free agent this offseason.
According to HoopsHype insider Michael Scotto, the Spurs are among the teams interested in signing Philadelphia 76ers swingman Georges Niang.
"Niang is expected to receive free agency interest from the Bulls, 76ers, and Spurs, along with the Cavaliers, league sources told HoopsHype," Scotto writes.
Niang, 30, has been a key part of the 76ers' rotation for the past two seasons. In his Philadelphia tenure, he has averaged 8.7 points per game while shooting north of 40 percent from beyond the three-point line.
The Spurs ranked 26th in the NBA this past season in three-point percentage at 34.4 percent, so Niang's help in that department would be greatly appreciated.
The Spurs have a crowded group of players at Niang's forward position. Keldon Johnson, Jeremy Sochan and Doug McDermott are among the players Niang would be competing for playing time against. That being said, having a veteran to replace the likely-departing Keita Bates-Diop would be beneficial for San Antonio.
Free agency kicks off tonight at 5 p.m., where the Spurs and the other 29 teams can begin negotiating and reaching verbal agreements with players in and out of the organization.
