The San Antonio Spurs are moving back to the drawing board after one of their reported targets in free agency became unavailable.

Naz Reid signed a three-year, $42 million extension with the Minnesota Timberwolves over the weekend, ending his sweepstakes ahead of Friday's start to free agency. Sources say that the Spurs would have been interested in Reid if he was available.

"The Spurs, league sources say, are another Texas team that would have had interest in Reid had he made it to free agency, with San Antonio known to be searching for a proven center who can ease the frontcourt burden that it places on prized rookie Victor Wembanyama in his first NBA season," NBA insider Marc Stein wrote. "It's believed, though, that the Spurs were likely to offer Reid only a one-year contract to fill that role."

What does this information tell us about the Spurs' potential plans?

Despite having Zach Collins and Victor Wembanyama on the roster, the Spurs might be targeting a big man. However, if it was only for a one-year deal, then the team is looking for someone who can eat up some of Wembanyama's minutes as he will likely manage his load as he gets his feet wet in the NBA.

Perhaps this means San Antonio could target small-term centers in free agency like Dwight Powell (Dallas Mavericks), Moe Wagner (Orlando Magic) or former Spurs big man Drew Eubanks (Portland Trail Blazers).
