NBA Player Rankings: Where's Spurs SG Devin Vassell?
Last season, San Antonio Spurs guard Devin Vassell proved himself twice.
The first time came at the beginning of the season, when he scored more than 20 points in seven of his first nine appearances. During a year when development was key, he showed just how much he had developed over the offseason. That was, until he got hurt.
After playing at the beginning of January, a knee injury kept him sidelined for two months, which did negatively impact San Antonio's offense. But when he came back, he proved himself all over again — not that he needed to.
In Bleacher Report's annual ranking of the NBA's Top-100 players, considerations included a mixture of previous on-court performance, potential ceiling and even expected impact ahead of the 2023-24 season.
"B/R asked its best basketball minds to answer a series of random Player A vs. Player B debates," the site wrote. "The question for each debate [was]: Which player will rank higher by the end of the 2023-24 season?"
After compiling over 8,000 votes, results were synthesized and averaged, creating the final list of players — including a short list of honorable mentions.
Now, healthier than ever, Vassell clocked in at No. 90 in Bleacher Report's top 100 player rankings.
"Devin Vassell [has] quietly evolving into a three-level scoring threat with pull-up shooting and driving ability compared to when he left Florida State," Bleacher Report wrote. "He may lose shots this year to Victor Wembanyama, but [he] has the type of complementary scoring skill set to put up points in a spot-up heavy role.
"He's positioning himself for a big second contract by showing he can be a top-three option and reliable shooter who can defend opposing teams' best wing."
Still within the first five seasons of his career, Vassell is in fact in prime position to put himself at the top of San Antonio's young roster. If he was able to scrape the top-100 list after missing two months, one can only imagine the ceiling he could have this year if he remains healthy.
