NBA Power Rankings: San Antonio Spurs Trending Up Despite Losing Streak?

The San Antonio Spurs have lost 17 games in a row. Where does that put them in this week's power rankings?
In this story:

The San Antonio Spurs achieved a piece of franchise history that they aren't necessarily proud of.

Following Monday night's 92-83 loss to the Houston Rockets, the Spurs lost their 17th consecutive game, the most in franchise history.

Despite the team reaching new lows as a franchise, they are actually moving up in CBS Sports' power rankings. After ranking No. 28 last week, the team moved up one spot to No. 27.

"The Spurs' offense has bordered on anemic, averaging just 97 points per 100 possessions this week in losses to the Wolves, Bulls and Rockets," CBS Sports writes. "Victor Wembanyama had the first 20-20 game of his career against Chicago, but he struggled shooting the ball over the three games, making just 40% from the field and going 1-for-12 from 3-point range."

The team currently sits ahead of the Utah Jazz, Washington Wizards and Detroit Pistons.

The Spurs have optimism because Victor Wembanyama is playing well, and as long as he continues to shine, there will be something positive to take away from this season.

Spurs Praise Defense After Worrisome Shooting Performance

San Antonio will have three chances this week to avoid this skid from going any further, but it won't be easy. The team hosts two games this week on Wednesday and Friday night against LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers, who are fresh off their In-Season Tournament championship.

Then, the team gets a Sunday matinee contest against Zion Williamson, Brandon Ingram and the New Orleans Pelicans, who just beat the NBA-best Minnesota Timberwolves by 14 points on Monday night.
