NBA Report Cards: Spurs Making The Grade at Halfway Mark?

The San Antonio Spurs are 7-32 through 39 games. Where does that grade them for their midseason report card?

The San Antonio Spurs are roughly halfway through the regular season, and the team still remains at the bottom of the Western Conference standings.

That being said, it's familiar territory for the Spurs, who were expected to be close to this spot coming into the season.

That's why despite having the worst record in the West, the Spurs are being given a 'C' on Bleacher Report's halfway mark report card.

"The San Antonio Spurs' season-long numbers still look like a full-fledged basketball disaster, but Victor Wembanyama looks more like a bona fide star with every passing week," Bleacher Report writes. "And it looks like the organization is more willing to nourish that stardom than it was earlier this season (maybe because it looks like a bottom-three record and a 14.5 percent chance at the top pick in 2024 can't be fumbled now)."

Wembanyama has single-handedly made this Spurs season somewhat watchable and his growth still has San Antonio believing he is the next franchise superstar.

On top of that, the Spurs are continuing to lasso assets around him to help build a contender.

Wembanyama Shows Appreciation for Sochan

"Winding up with 15-20 wins wouldn't feel great in the moment, but this team's arrow is pointed in the right direction with Wembanyama, Devin Vassell and another incoming draft pick," Bleacher Report writes.

Ultimately, the Spurs' season stacked up to the rest of the NBA should be an 'F'. Just seven wins in nearly 40 games is unacceptable. However, the Spurs are running their own race and their pace is at a good spot.
