NBA Trade Rumors: Mavs' Luka Doncic to Spurs?

Luka Doncic is a popular name in trade rumors. Could the San Antonio Spurs be linked to him?
Scott Wachter-USA TODAY Sports
In this story:

If the Dallas Mavericks were to trade Luka Doncic this offseason, it would send Texas-size shockwaves throughout the league ... especially if he stayed in the Lone Star State.

NBA Analysis Network curated a trade idea that would send Doncic south to the San Antonio Spurs for a king's ransom.

For Doncic, the Spurs would have to give up Keldon Johnson, Doug McDermott, Devonte’ Graham and five first-round picks. Out of those five picks, three of those originally belong to the Spurs. The fourth one comes from the Boston Celtics as part of the Derrick White trade and the last one from the Dejounte Murray blockbuster from the Atlanta Hawks.

Because of the Murray trade, the Spurs have picks they can spend to cash out on a superstar.

But for a team that just finished the first year of its rebuild, it might be too early to get that star to bring the Spurs back to relevancy.

Surely if the Mavs offered Doncic to the Spurs, the San Antonio front office would have to consider, and likely accept, any offer.

However, Doncic doesn't appear to be asking out of Dallas anytime soon. But even if he were to do so, the Spurs might be the last team the Mavs would trade him to.
