The San Antonio Spurs are going to have to make some changes to the roster very soon.

The team currently has 20 players under contract, more than the allowed total at the start of the season.

Perhaps the Spurs may go for the "last one in, first one out" strategy and find a new home for veteran point guard Cameron Payne.

"Cameron Payne, whom they just got is a player who could help there, especially if Graham doesn’t stick around," HoopsHype said.

Payne, 28, averaged 10.3 points per game for the Phoenix Suns this past season. He was acquired in a trade earlier this month from the Suns, who sent a future draft pick and cash to San Antonio in the deal.

Payne has a lot of value as a veteran point guard. He can help mentor the younger players on the roster.

However, the Spurs are in the midst of a rebuild and San Antonio may prefer to play its younger assets, those with a higher chance of being on the roster when the team is good again.

The Spurs likely won't shop Payne, otherwise they wouldn't have acquired him to begin with. However, if a team calls them up sometime during training camp with an attractive offer, the least they should do is listen.
