San Antonio Spurs Betting Favorites to Land Stephen Curry if He Leaves Golden State Warriors

Somehow, someway, the San Antonio Spurs are the betting favorite to land Stephen Curry should the future Hall of Famer leave the Golden State Warriors.

Even as the 2023-24 NBA season continues to get underway, we're never safe from the inevitable rumors of players being traded or signing elsewhere. These conversations usually dominate offseason headlines, but a recent exception involving the San Antonio Spurs is certain to turn some heads 10 games in the team's season.

Per Bet Online.ag, should Golden State Warriors superstar Stephen Curry choose to not re-sign with the team when he becomes an unrestricted free agent in 2026 at age 38, the Spurs are the current betting favorite with 3/1 odds to land him.

It's important to emphasize that the Spurs are only the leaders here among teams not named the Warriors. Barring something unforeseen, it seems highly likely that Curry finishes his storied career in Golden State.

Still, San Antonio tops a list that also includes Curry's hometown Charlotte Hornets (4/1), the Los Angeles Lakers (5/1) and the Dallas Mavericks (7/1) among others.

These odds are, well "odd" to say the least. Sure, Curry could leave Golden State once his contract is up, but there's been no known buzz or indication that San Antonio would be the intended destination for the two-time MVP, four-time champion and NBA's all-time leader in 3-point makes.

Additionally, there's no guarantee that Spurs coach Gregg Popovich will still be coaching in 2026 despite his new contract extension. Considering his longevity in the league, Pop has built tons of relationships with players, including Curry. Still, that's hardly made San Antonio a popular free agency destination despite the presence of one of the greatest coaches in sports history.

The lure of playing next to a young star like rookie Victor Wembanyama is something that could draw free agents to San Antonio in the coming years, but who's to say that Curry will be one of them?

As of now, there appears to be no real noise about Curry teaming up with Wemby. But playing the "what if" game remains fun even though it isn't the offseason.

The Spurs play Curry and the Warriors for the first time this season on Friday, Nov. 24 at the Chase Center in a game that will mark San Antonio's fourth contest of the In-Season Tournament.
