Spurs Free Agency: San Antonio Targeting Bulls PG Ayo Dosunmu?
After dealing away center Jakob Poeltl and veteran guard Josh Richardson to the Toronto Raptors and New Orleans Pelicans, respectively, the San Antonio Spurs now sit with an almost-unrecognizable team from just a few years ago.
The Spurs' mid-season moves made clear that the franchise is heading in the rebuilding direction, with this season likely ending in another high pick.
With an already young core centered around guard-duo Keldon Johnson and rookie Jeremy Sochan, the Spurs could be looking to add fresh talent.
Bleacher Report proposed the idea of signing Chicago Bulls guard Ayo Dosunmu, a second-year pro who’s already made a splash in the NBA.
This season, Dosunmu is averaging 9.6 points and 3.1 rebounds for his hometown Bulls, but has also proved his ability to score at will, and make plays when they matter most.
Dosunmu is also shooting 51 percent on the season, meaning he would bring shooting to a Spurs team who has struggled all season from the floor, ranking in the bottom 10 teams in the league in field goal percentage.
In order to make a deal happen, San Antonio would have to pursue the young guard through the restricted free agency market, meaning the Bulls could match any offer.
If San Antonio likes what it sees in Dosunmu, who has maintained a high level of play in both of his seasons with Chicago, a potential offer may be made, though only time will tell.
