Spurs Power Rankings: Optimism After Win vs. Jazz?
Heading into the final stretch of the season, there is a tight race for playoff positioning while other teams are lottery bound. The San Antonio Spurs are apart of the latter group, but just snapped a historic losing streak, snapping a 16-game skid in a win against the Utah Jazz.
The Spurs rank in the No. 30 slot in Sports Illustrated's most recent Power Rankings, in the same spot as the previous list. SI's reasoning behind the dead-last ranking:
"Here are some facts about the Spurs: They are 3–23 in 2023 and just came out of a franchise-record 16-game losing streak with Tuesday’s win over the Jazz," SI writes. "They have the worst defensive rating and net rating in the league and will surely have a 14% shot at presumptive No. 1 pick Victor Wembanyama when the draft lottery comes around."
Can the Spurs continue to rebuild their franchise and find some wins along the way? Next up, San Antonio is a five-point underdog against the Indiana Pacers in AT&T Center on Thursday night. The Spurs schedule turns heavy on home games in March and coach Gregg Popovich is hoping to bestow wisdom onto the inexperienced Spurs to pay off richly in the long term.
