San Antonio Spurs' Jeremy Sochan Reveals 'Different Type of Energy'

"There's been a different kind of energy," San Antonio Spurs forward Jeremy Sochan said. "Everyone wants to come back. Everyone wants to learn."

Coming into this season with a new level of attention and love from San Antonio Spurs fans, Jeremy Sochan is ready to work, lead and perform.

His colorful hair highlights his eccentric personality — which his teammates have commented on time and time again — but it certainly hasn't distracted him from the main goal this season: playing winning basketball.

"There's been a different kind of energy," Sochan said. "Everyone wants to come back. Everyone wants to learn. That's an exciting thing to have as a young team. ... We've been in the gym. Sometimes the whole team is here — that's a rare thing in the NBA."

Sochan ended last season on the bench due to injury, but after spending his time sidelined, he made clear that his goal was to remain healthy, which he says coach Gregg Popovich has helped with, among other things.

"Coming in, I was an open book," Sochan said. "I listened to everything he said and just wanted to learn and grow. He helped with that. I feel like we made a connection not only on the court, but off the court, too."

Sochan seems to have a renewed understanding of self and motivation both on the court and off of it, and given his close relationship with rookie Victor Wembanyama, that will certainly help. Recently, however, he's spent some time simply admiring the rookie's talents.

"I think he's just a freak of nature," Sochan said laughing. "It's not a normal thing to see someone that tall move like that."

Sochan very well could end up in the Spurs' starting lineup, and if he does, he'll be ready to lead, as well as embrace the positive energy he's felt from his teammates.
