San Antonio Spurs' Jeremy Sochan Emerging as Leader Despite Los Angeles Clippers Loss

"Pop told us about our competitiveness coming back to the locker room and we have leaders on the team," San Antonio Spurs rookie Victor Wembanyama said. "Jeremy’s one of them and it’s good he’s learning a new role."

The San Antonio Spurs may have lost 10 straight games, but spirits are still high in the locker room after the team's 109-102 loss Wednesday night against the Los Angeles Clippers.

In the loss, new point guard Jeremy Sochan had arguably his best game of the year, scoring a season-high 19 points and seven assists, a total he's only surpassed once so far in 15 games.

“We never want to lose, but that’s the best way to lose," Jeremy Sochan said. "Staying hungry, playing against four Hall of Famers, a team that’s fighting for a championship. I think that’s the way to lead the game."

Sochan is speaking like a leader, and his leadership is felt around the locker room.

"Pop told us about our competitiveness coming back to the locker room and we have leaders on the team," Victor Wembanyama said. "Jeremy’s one of them and it’s good he’s learning a new role, but at the same time, we’re here to help him and he’s also here reassuring us. He’s proving every day and I’m glad to have such a solid mental basis."

Given the team's start and knowledge of who it is, Sochan doesn't feel the pressure of winning. He simply just has to take each game one at a time and get as good as he can. Based on his personal results Wednesday night, it appears he's doing just that.

Sochan and the Spurs are back in action tomorrow night against the Golden State Warriors in their final In-Season Tournament game. Tipoff is scheduled for 9 p.m. CT.
