San Antonio Spurs basketball is back as they travel north to face the Oklahoma City Thunder in the preseason opener.

Assuming everyone healthy will play, this will likely be the first meeting between the league's top two candidates for Rookie of the Year ... Victor Wembanyama and Chet Holmgren.

Wembanyama, the No. 1 overall pick for the Spurs this summer, is set to lead San Antonio into a new era for the franchise. It remains to be seen how much run Wembanyama will get during the preseason, but he should have at least a little bit of action in the team's opener. Nobody is currently listed on an injury report for the Spurs, so San Antonio should have most, if not all, of its roster available.

As for Holmgren, he missed all of last season with a Lisfranc injury after being drafted No. 2 overall by the Thunder. Now, he comes into the league with an opportunity to lead OKC back to the playoffs for the first time since 2020. Holmgren is expected to play, while fellow co-star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander will rest as he ramps up for the season.
