Spurs PG Tre Jones Reacts to 'Weird' Loss vs. Kings

Tre Jones spoke with the media after the San Antonio Spurs' 131-129 loss to the Sacramento Kings.

The San Antonio Spurs went through a roller coaster of emotions that ultimately ended in a 131-129 loss to the Sacramento Kings on Thursday night at the Golden1 Center.

Playing without Victor Wembanyama, the Spurs were a massive underdog. And that appeared to be the case in the first half when the Spurs trailed by double digits. The Spurs trailed by as much as 20, but they began to chip away, ultimately grabbing a lead early in the fourth quarter.

The Spurs held a lead for most of the fourth quarter and in fact held a five-point advantage with less than a minute to go. However, a 7-0 run by the Kings in the final minute stunned the Spurs and led to an untimely loss.

"We had the win in our hands, for sure," Spurs point guard Tre Jones said postgame. "It's a tough one. We're down big. Just kept sticking with it, clawed our way back, got the lead, able to hold on to the lead. That was weird at the end what even happened, but we’ll have to just go watch and see what happened and then just learn from it.”

In the final minute, Kings guard Malik Monk hit a 3-pointer in transition to tie the game. Then, on the ensuing possession, Domantas Sabonis stole a bad pass from Malaki Branham and ran away on a fast break for a go-ahead dunk.

Spurs Suffer Crushing Loss to Kings Without Wemby

Losing is no stranger to the Spurs, who dropped their 50th game in Thursday's loss, but like the 49 before this one, they have to learn from it and apply their lessons to the next game.

The Spurs are back in action tomorrow against the Golden State Warriors. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. CT.
