'Wemby vs. Britney Spears' Silliness: Spurs Plan in Place, No Charges Filed
SAN ANTONIO - Victor Wembanyama hasn't played a game yet for the San Antonio Spurs, but he's already caught up in a fair amount of drama.
Through no fault of his own, Wembanyama is on the wrong end of a police report filed by pop icon Britney Spears against his security team ... talk about a unique start to his career.
But Wemby doesn't deserve this. All he did was evolve into the most skilled guy to come into the NBA since LeBron James and with that comes attention that the Spurs are not used to. They, along with Wemby's people will handle this situation like pros and issue a bunch of no comments and they will all move on.
According to the Associated Press, no charges will be filed in the altercation. ... as our own Mike Fisher predicted would be the case in a Thursday evening appearance on the Dan Abrams TV show.
It'll have no bearing on his development or whether they win or lose games. He'll play in the Summer League in Vegas, take some time off and then join his new teammates for training camp. The Britney incident will soon be forgotten. The Spurs will coach Wembanyama and they won't comment ever on the silliness at the restaurant.
The Spurs realize that this unprecedented attention is coming. They have a plan in place to ignore it and not let it distract them. They are not the Dallas Cowboys, who get all the attention and seem to sometimes "grab-bag'' their way through their plans. And we love the Spurs for that.
