The San Antonio Spurs are a little more than two weeks away from taking Victor Wembanyama with the No. 1 overall pick in the NBA Draft, and a little less than a month away from his potential debut in the California Classic.

While many NBA and Spurs fans would be excited for Wembanyama to make his league debut as soon as possible, there's a chance that the No. 1 pick may not play in the exhibition matches.

Wembanyama is in the middle of a playoff run with Metropolitans 92, who defeated ASVEL in the semifinals to advance to the league final, which begins Saturday and could go as long as June 20, two days before the draft.

While the Spurs would likely appreciate having Wembanyama get some run with some of his teammates, it's possible that San Antonio would prefer to have him sit out of these initial games.

Wembanyama doesn't have much to prove in any summer league and isn't rusty like many of the collegiate players coming out of the draft. The last thing the Spurs would want is for Wembanyama to suffer an injury that switches up his rehab process for the summer and delays his real San Antonio debut, when the games begin to count.
