Even if he had an inkling or two that he was going to be the No. 1 pick, Victor Wembanyama was still nervous when the San Antonio Spurs were on the clock on draft night.

"Longest five minutes of my life. This is when I started getting the butterflies, and it's where I started seeing my family get silent," Wembanyama said.

But when NBA commissioner Adam Silver called his name as the top pick in the draft, those butterflies went away.

"I can't really describe it. It's still fresh. One of the best feelings of my life. Probably the best night of my life. I've been dreaming about this for so long. It's a dream come true. It's incredible," Wembanyama said.

For Wembanyama, being drafted No. 1 is the culmination of a lot of hard work to get to this point. After the end of his successful career in France, which ended in a Finals appearance this past season, he has done his job in his home country.

Even though it feels like the end of a chapter for the new Spurs rookie, another one is about to begin, and San Antonio along with Wembanyama, hopes that it ends in a title or two (or three, or four, or five...)
