San Antonio Spurs Rookie Victor Wembanyama Talks Acting Career, New HEB Commercials
Since the days of Fox Sports Southwest and into the controversial Bally Sports era, the San Antonio Spurs have long been keeping fans entertained during commercial breaks of game broadcasts with signature HEB commercials.
Considering the Spurs landed the No. 1 overall pick this past summer, it's no surprise that rookie Victor Wembanyama is the latest to star in the ads, which could be coming soon after the players recently finished filming.
He talked about the entire experience when speaking to the media on Monday.
“It’s huge,” Wembanyama said, per the San Antonio Express-News. “Obviously they are funny, but it’s also part of the culture.”
When asked if he had a future as an actor, Wembanyama made things very clear.
"Yes," he said. "Not maybe. Yes."
As central Texas natives know, the region-exclusive supermarket is often seen as having an unofficial monopoly on the area, and the commercials with the team have been seen as a reflection of that given the popularity of the ads and the players featured in them.
Spurs legends like Tim Duncan, Manu Ginobili, George Gervin, David Robinson, Tony Parker and more have appeared in the commercials along with many fan-favorite role players like Danny Green, Boris Diaw and Patty Mills.
The Spurs will be hoping that the eventual debut of the new commercials will come after the team has finally secured a win. San Antonio (3-16) is currently on a 14-game losing streak heading into Wednesday's matchup against the Minnesota Timberwolves on Wednesday at the Frost Bank Center.
