Spurs Summer League Roster: San Antonio Signs West Virginia SG Erik Stevenson - NBA Draft Tracker
WEST VIRGINIA'S ERIK STEVENSON PLAYING FOR SPURS IN SUMMER LEAGUE
The San Antonio Spurs' Summer League roster continues to round itself out.
According to Turner Sports, West Virginia guard Erik Stevenson has accepted an invitation to play for the Spurs in Summer League.
Stevenson averaged 15.4 points per game for the Mountaineers last season.
SPURS SIGN ALABAMA CENTER TO UDFA DEAL
The San Antonio Spurs continue to add to their rookie class after the draft.
According to Turner Sports, the Spurs are signing Alabama big man Charles Bediako to a one-year deal.
Bediako, 21, started all 37 games for Alabama this past season, averaging six points and 6.7 rebounds per game.
FORMER SPUR DAVIS BERTANS TRADED TO THUNDER
The San Antonio Spurs acquired forward Davis Bertans in the 2011 draft-night deal that landed Kawhi Leonard in the Alamo City.
Following his departure from San Antonio in 2019, Bertans has played for the Washington Wizards and, most recently, the Dallas Mavericks. Now, he's being traded once again on draft night.
The Mavs have traded Bertans and Kentucky guard Cason Wallace, who was the No. 10 pick on Thursday, to the Oklahoma City Thunder for the No. 12 overall pick, which was used to select Duke center Dereck Lively II.
WEMBY'S TEAMMATE TO WIZARDS
The San Antonio Spurs officially selected Victor Wembanyama with the No. 1 overall pick on Thursday night. Leading up to the draft, many rumors had connected the Spurs to Wembanyama's Metropolitans 92 teammate, Bilal Coulibaly.
However, the dreams of a potential reunion in San Antonio are now no more. The Indiana Pacers selected Coulibaly with the No. 7 overall pick, though this pick will be traded to the Washington Wizards in exchange for the No. 8 overall pick.
Washington selected Houston Cougars forward Jarace Walker at No. 8, meaning he's now headed to Indiana.
WARRIORS ACQUIRE CHRIS PAUL FROM WIZARDS
The Washington Wizards continue to take center stage ahead of the NBA Draft.
After acquiring Chris Paul from the Phoenix Suns earlier this week for Bradley Beal, the team is sending him to the Golden State Warriors for Ryan Rollins, Jordan Poole, a 2027 second-round pick and a 2030 first-round selection, per The Athletic.
Paul was potentially a free agent target for the Spurs, but now he has a new home within the Western Conference.
TYUS JONES TRADED TO WIZARDS, PORZINGIS TO CELTICS, SMART TO GRIZZLIES
A rival of the San Antonio Spurs looks very different after a big trade.
After a three-team trade with the Los Angeles Clippers fell through, the Memphis Grizzlies swooped in on a deal with the Boston Celtics and Washington Wizards to land Marcus Smart. Spurs point guard Tre Jones saw his brother Tyus re-routed to the Wizards from the Grizzlies in the deal.
Here's a look at the full trade:
Celtics receive:
- Kristaps Porzingis (via Wizards)
- No. 25 pick in 2023 Draft (via Grizzlies)
- 2024 first-round pick (top-four protected, via Warriors)
Grizzlies receive:
- Marcus Smart (via Celtics)
Wizards receive:
- Tyus Jones (via Grizzlies)
- Danilo Gallinari (via Celtics)
- Mike Muscala (via Celtics)
- No. 35 pick in 2023 Draft (via Celtics)
The trade ends Marcus Smart's nine-year tenure with the Celtics and lands him with the Grizzlies, where he hopes to be the veteran presence Memphis needs in order to take the next step in its path to the NBA championship.
The Wizards clear the books on Porzingis' $36 million salary, while getting a legitimate starting point guard in Jones. Danilo Gallinari and Mike Muscala shouldn't have prominent roles in Washington and could be routed elsewhere before the start of the season.
Ultimately, giving up Smart is pricey, but the Celtics hope this trade will get them over the hump and win their first NBA championship since 2008.
