The San Antonio Spurs are back down to earth after their 3-2 start.

The back-to-back wins against the Phoenix Suns a week ago had the Spurs excited for what's to come, but this past week has humbled San Antonio to say the least. Since winning last Thursday in Phoenix, the Spurs are 0-3, including last night's loss against the New York Knicks.

Despite the struggles, veteran forward Keldon Johnson vows to keep the energy up amidst the long season.

“We stay level-headed, and we don’t get too high or too low," Johnson said. "It’s a long season and it's hard to be hyped after two games, but that’s what everyone else is for. We stay together, we stay locked in, we continue to strive and watch films and better ourselves each and every day."

The Spurs are in the first mile or two of the season-long marathon and there's plenty of time to get better, and it seems like San Antonio is focusing on the bigger picture.

So far this season, the Spurs have flashed a lot of potential and growth, especially when it comes to No. 1 overall pick Victor Wembanyama. But the team also recognizes that the Roman Empire wasn't built in a day ... the same goes for the Spurs.

The Spurs are back home Friday for their first In-Season Tournament game, where they will face off against Anthony Edwards, Karl-Anthony Towns and the Minnesota Timberwolves. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. CT inside the Frost Bank Center.
