Spurs Trade Doug McDermott to Pacers: Full Details
The NBA trade deadline passed Thursday afternoon and the San Antonio Spurs beat the clock with a last-minute deal.
Per reports from Shams Charania of The Athletic, the Spurs are trading veteran wing Doug McDermott to the Indiana Pacers in exchange for forward Marcus Morris, a future second-round pick and cash considerations.
However, Charania said that Morris is likely to be bought out by San Antonio.
“The Pacers are trading Marcus Morris, a second-round pick and cash to the Spurs for Doug McDermott, sources tell The Athletic,” Charania tweeted. “Spurs are likely to buyout Marcus Morris, sources said.”
McDermott played in 46 games for the Spurs this season, averaging 6.0 points and 1.2 assists per game while playing 15.2 minutes per contest. He scored a season-best 18 points in the 134-128 loss to the Portland Trail Blazers on Dec. 29.
Originally a first-round pick by the Denver Nuggets before being traded to the Chicago Bulls on draft night in 2014, McDermott eventually made his way to Indiana in 2018 and played with the Pacers for three seasons.

He signed a three-year, $42 million deal as part of a sign-and-trade before the Pacers dealt him to the Spurs in August 2021. Now, he’s back in Indiana with a chance to play in the postseason.
The Spurs and Pacers will play for the second and final time this season on Sunday, March 3 in San Antonio.
