When the San Antonio Spurs drafted Victor Wembanyama, it was a no-brainer. There was no semblance of a "smart" decision because it was the obvious one.

However, the Spurs still played it smart this summer. San Antonio isn't ready to jump back into the arms race quite yet even with Wembanyama in the fold, but this season is about setting a foundation, benchmark and culture.

That culture should be fortified by their veteran additions this summer.

"The Spurs made a lot of smart moves this offseason, using their cap space to take on vets like Reggie Bullock, Cedi Osman and Cam Payne while collecting draft picks," Bleacher Report writes.

Not only do Osman, Bullock and Payne bring a veteran presence the Spurs desperately need, but all of these players fit with Wembanyama in different ways.

Osman and Bullock are players who can help space the floor and could pair with Wembanyama in the frontcourt as the team looks to make its rookie a forward.

Payne is someone who could do wonders in the pick-and-roll for Wembanyama and having a point guard who can organize the offense the way it needs to be could be invaluable.

It remains to be seen how much these veterans will play amidst a young roster, but there will be some experience to boost the Spurs as they establish their foundation for the future.
