Spurs Rookie Victor Wembanyama to Play in Skills Challenge at All-Star Weekend
San Antonio Spurs rookie Victor Wembanyama has seemingly done it all halfway through his first NBA season.
From alley-oops to himself, dribbling between defenders legs to posterizing the defense seemingly every night, he’s put up both the highlights and numbers that show why he was the consensus No. 1 overall pick.
Now, he’s taking his talents to Indianapolis for 2024 NBA All-Star Weekend.
Per NBA insider Shams Charania, Wembanyama is set to play in the annual Skills Challenge, which will allow him to show off his individual dribbling, shooting and passing ability in an obstacle course against other select players.
“San Antonio's Victor Wembanyama plans to commit to participate in the Skills Challenge at NBA All-Star Weekend in Indianapolis, sources tell @TheAthletic @Stadium,” Charania tweeted.
Wemby-Less Spurs Fall to Bulls Despite Tre Jones Career Night
Wembanyama will also likely be a reserve in the All-Star Game based on the latest voting results, though fans will still have to wait for official word on that front. In the latest voting returns, he was the No. 8 vote-getter in the Western Conference frontcourt with 426,419 votes at the time of the data release. The next voting update will happen this Thursday, Jan. 18.
This season, Wemby leads the Spurs in points (19.4), rebounds (10.2) and blocks (3.2) per game.
He rested in Saturday’s 122-116 loss to the Chicago Bulls but is set to return for Monday’s meeting at State Farm Center against the Atlanta Hawks.
