'F--- That': Spurs Drafting Victor Wembanyama Angers Rival Scout
It wouldn't be a stretch to say a majority of NBA teams - especially those in the lottery - were envious when the San Antonio Spurs came out away with the No. 1 overall pick.
Not that it came as surprise after San Antonio posted a 22-60 mark last season, good for second-worst in the NBA and entered Tuesday tied for the best odds to be awarded the top selection. However, the stakes of landing French superstar Victor Wembanyama gave every franchise optimism that they were in the running.
On the other hand, one rival scout had a differentiating opinion on the Spurs potentially drafting the 7-4 generational talent per SpursTalk.com.
“F—- that. Those guys have gotten enough luck already. They already got [Tim Duncan] and [David Robinson]. Being able to draft the three best center prospects of the last 35 years would be some bullsh–.”
It is a foregone conclusion that Wembanyama will be drafted with the No. 1 pick, with a $100 wager only netting 50 cents, according to DraftKings.
And for good reason, as the 19-year-old has been on the NBA's radar since emerging on the French scene several years ago.
This season playing for Metropolitans 92, Wembanyama currently leads the entire LNB Pro A league - a top-eight basketball league in the world - in points, rebounds and blocks per game. Now, he'll get the chance to play in the best league in the world with the Spurs.
