Spurs' Victor Wembanyama 'Not Even Close' to Best

Victor Wembanyama has been great for the San Antonio Spurs, but he's got plenty of room left to grow.

San Antonio Spurs rookie Victor Wembanyama is already playing at a high level in his first NBA season. However, the French phenom believes he still has room to grow.

"It's a day-by-day thing, but what's for sure is I'm not even close to being at my best," Wembanyama said. "I don't see my progression stopping anytime soon. So it's good for confidence, and it's a lot to correct. A lot to adjust."

Wembanyama's comments came after he pieced together one of his best performances of the season in an overtime win on Sunday night against the Brooklyn Nets.

Wembanyama scored 33 points on 14 of 26 shooting with 15 rebounds, seven assists and seven blocks.

The Spurs rookie is one of just 12 players who are averaging 10 or more rebounds per game this season. Of those 12, only Domantas Sabonis, Anthony Davis, Nikola Jokic, Giannis Antetokounmpo and Wembanyama are also averaging 20 points per game.

The other four in that group are established All-Stars and franchise cornerstones, so the fact Wembanyama is also pulling off this feat at just 20 years old is remarkable. And it's also a sign of what's to come for the Spurs star.

Wembanyama and the Spurs are back in action tomorrow night against the Dallas Mavericks. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. CT.
