Victor Wembanyama 'Proud' After San Antonio Spurs 3-Game Win Streak

San Antonio Spurs rookie Victor Wembanyama has strong feelings as his team builds momentum in the final month of the season.

San Antonio Spurs rookie Victor Wembanyama has had many ups and downs during his first NBA season. But one of his biggest highs came Friday after the Spurs beat the New York Knicks 130-126 in overtime at the Frost Bank Center.

Wembanyama dominated, scoring 40 points and grabbing 20 rebounds. It's a statline only Anthony Davis, Giannis Antetokounmpo, Anthony Davis, Joel Embiid, Luka Doncic, DeMarcus Cousins and Nikola Jokic have replicated in the last decade.

After the game, despite the amazing individual performance, Wembanyama beamed with pride for his team's effort against one of the NBA's best.

“Proud of us for controlling the game," Wembanyama said postgame. "Of course, they came back in the third quarter but it's to be expected from a team like this, a contender. We knew how to control the game, so that’s good. Hard fought battle. I feel proud because they are a very good team, especially defensively, so it just shows our progression.”

It definitely felt like the Spurs wouldn't have won the game if it was earlier in the year, and the progress the team has made now has a tangible game to point towards in order to showcase that growth. The Spurs are only going to continue to grow, and eventually they will be beating some of the best teams in the league with a little bit more consistency.

The Spurs are back in action tomorrow night when they host the Golden State Warriors at the Frost Bank Center. Tipoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. CT.
