'Easiest $25k Ever! Spurs' Victor Wembanyama, Jeremy Sochan Rising Stars Recap
The San Antonio Spurs were well represented at the Rising Stars event to kickoff All-Star Weekend in Indianapolis on Friday.
Spurs rookie Victor Wembanyama was the star of the show for Team Pau Gasol in the four-team tournament, but his team got upset in the first round by the G League squad. Wembanyama finished with 11 points on 5 of 6 shooting to go along with seven rebounds, two blocks, an assist and a steal.
Meanwhile, Spurs forward Jeremy Sochan and Team Jalen Rose went 2-0 to win the tournament. He didn’t score in the two games, but scored off the court by landing a $25,000 bonus just for being on the roster as an injury replacement.
“That's the easiest $25K I ever made," Sochan said, per Tom Orsborn of the San Antonio-Express News.
Wembanyama tried to get a fancy a few times, including a nutmeg attempt between the legs of G League standout He's successfully pulled off some no-look passes and nutmegs during the regular season, but some of that magic got snuffed out on Friday night.
Despite a handful of turnovers, Wembanyama still had some signature blocks and a few dunks, but Team Pau as a whole missed some big opportunities to avoid the upset.
