Spurs' Victor Wembanyama Questionable vs. Jazz After 'Weird' Injury
San Antonio Spurs rookie star Victor Wembanyama is questionable for Tuesday night’s game against the Utah Jazz at Frost Bank Center after missing Saturday’s 144-119 loss to the Dallas Mavericks.
Wemby suffered an odd pregame ankle injury prior to facing Dallas after he stepped on a ball boy’s foot during warmups. The Spurs kept him out due to precautionary reasons, as the team certainly doesn’t want to see its franchise cornerstone suffer an even worse injury by forcing him to play.
Here’s the full injury report for the Spurs:
Zach Collins - Probable (left knee soreness)
Victor Wembanyama - Questionable (right ankle soreness)
Dominick Barlow - Questionable (G League)
David Duke Jr. - OUT (G League)
Charles Bediako - OUT (G League)
After the loss to the Mavs, Spurs forward Jeremy Sochan said that Wemby’s injury was “a weird one.”
Spurs Have 'Next-Play Mentality' in Struggling Season
"It’s a weird one,” Sochan said. “You never really see that. We were just hoping he was good. I know he was getting it tested before the game, and I agree with Pop, there is no need to risk something that he already kind of hurt before recently."
The Spurs will look to end a four-game losing streak on Tuesday against Utah. San Antonio ended its franchise-worst 18-game losing streak on Dec. 15 against the Los Angeles Lakers, but have fallen back down the Western Conference standings again.
If Wemby plays, he’ll give the Spurs a better chance of winning while adding to his elite Rookie of the Year case.
