'Very Poor Start' Leads to Spurs Loss vs. Jazz

The San Antonio Spurs fell behind early and couldn't catch up against the Utah Jazz.

The San Antonio Spurs are still on a losing streak after a 128-109 loss to the Utah Jazz on Sunday night at the Delta Center.

The Spurs built a 6-2 lead, but that was the only time they were out in front for the rest of the game. For the remainder of the first quarter, the Jazz went on a 30-12 run that sunk the Spurs for the rest of the game.

"Very poor start," Victor Wembanyama said postgame. "It's the consistency, as always. I think we were a little bit slow. Sloppy today. Maybe tired, but we got to make extra efforts and play smart, which we didn't do."

The deficit ballooned to 24 points by halftime, making the second half essentially irrelevant.

This is a pattern that the Spurs have built throughout the year. They will often fall behind early and eliminate any momentum in their sails before they are even able to get in the game. It sends a message that if you start off hot against San Antonio, you may be able to win the game in the first half.

Spurs Continue Road Trip Woes Against Jazz

That's what happened on Sunday in Salt Lake City. But, as rebuilding teams do, the Spurs will learn from this and find ways to turn it around when they hit the floor again.

The Spurs play the final game of their Rodeo Road Trip tomorrow against the Minnesota Timberwolves. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. CT.
