Victor Wembanyama 'Reincarnation' of Tim Duncan, Says Spurs Ex Drew Gooden
SAN ANTONIO - I have criticized people who have declared Victor Wembanyama a bust.
Some declared as much when video of him clanking shots after his introductory press conference went viral. Some saw his missed shots in his Summer league debut and laughed at how woeful the San Antonio Spurs had failed in the draft. I ripped all of them for the worst case of knee jerking I've seen in a long time.
However, Wemby has his fans, including former Spurs forward Drew Gooden.
“San Antonio is the perfect for him because you know Popovich and we’re really seeing the reincarnation of Tim Duncan all over again with the same story,” Gooden said on "Scoop B Selects."
As much as we'd like to hope Gooden is right, the truth is no one really knows anything about how Wemby is going to translate.
I think he's headed for greatness myself but as with all these opinions, I reserve the right to be wrong. Our society is in love with celebrities. Especially young ones. We chew them up, spit them out and move on to the next news cycle. In Wemby's case his career is going stay in that cycle for years. We will have to get used to it.
