NBA Trade Rumors: Kings' Davion Mitchell to Spurs?

Sacramento Kings guard Davion Mitchell is on the trade block. Could the San Antonio Spurs acquire him?

The San Antonio Spurs are just over 24 hours away from the NBA Trade Deadline and if they want someone outside of the roster to make an impact this season, they don't have much time to add them on board.

The team should be looking at point guard upgrades, and The Athletic is suggesting that Sacramento Kings guard Davion Mitchell could be an option.

"It says a lot about Mitchell’s offensive struggles that the Kings have found it hard to get his defensive energy and aggression on the floor. He’s still an absolute menace on defense, flying around with reckless abandon and causing issues at the point of attack for opposing perimeter players. However, he’s been one of the worst offensive players in the league so far this year, posting awful shooting percentages from the field and from 3," The Athletic writes.

"Maybe the 2021 top-10 pick could use a change of scenery, but the biggest pre-draft question with Mitchell was if he’d have enough juice on offense to make it work in the NBA. So far, he hasn’t."

Mitchell, 25, is averaging just 3.6 points per game this season, which is a far cry from the 11.5 points he was averaging in his rookie year. A change of scenery could be warranted for the former top-10 pick, and what better place to return than the state where he played his college basketball at Baylor?

Spurs Trade Target Ideas: Pacers Rising Star An Option?

Mitchell won a National Championship at Baylor, which is a big reason why he was regarded as such a unique talent coming into the 2021 NBA Draft. That being said, the Kings were a bad landing spot from the jump having already employed De'Aaron Fox and Tyrese Haliburton.

Perhaps with a team like the Spurs where he'd be given a larger role, he would have more success.
