B/R Suggests Suns Should Trade for Terrence Ross
After news of Kevin Durant remaining with the Brooklyn Nets broke, the rest of the NBA finally was able to carry about business as usual.
Patrick Beverley was the first domino to fall in a trade to the Los Angeles Lakers, and movement is only expected to begin across the league.
While the Phoenix Suns may not be in contention for hot names such as Donovan Mitchell, the team is still reportedly looking to add to their roster.
With Jae Crowder making it clear he wants a fresh start, movement appears entirely possible for a Phoenix team that is looking for any slight upgrade that could make the difference come playoff time.
Could that difference be Orlando Magic guard/forward Terrence Ross? Bleacher Report believes so.
In their most recent piece constructing trades each NBA team should make before training camp, the Suns offload Landry Shamet's contract and gain a second-round pick in the process:
Suns Acquire Terrence Ross in B/R Suggested Trade
Phoenix Suns receive: Terrence Ross and 2024 second-round pick
Orlando Magic receive: Landry Shamet
"With the Kevin Durant dreams over for now, the Suns can stop entertaining the idea of dramatically altering a roster that booked the franchise's third-ever Finals trip in 2021 and followed that up by winning a league-best (and franchise-record) 64 games last season," said Zach Buckley.
"This success has made this core costly, though, and Phoenix will have to pay or replace both Cam Johnson and Jae Crowder by next summer. If the organization wants to save some money, offloading Shamet (owed $10.3 million in 2023-24 with two eight-figure team-option years afterward) could be an option.
"If Ross can get his shooting back on track—moving from Orlando's offense to Phoenix's would be like upgrading from a lemon to a luxury ride—he could replace Shamet's production without being attached to any future costs. Tack on a second-rounder to keep or trade, and maybe Phoenix would bite."
Ross (31-years-old) is due $11.5 million and will be a unrestricted free agent heading into next offseason. Coming off the bench in Orlando last season, Ross played in 63 games, averaging 10 points 2.6 rebounds and 1.8 assists in 23 minutes per night.
This move doesn't exactly fit the mold of what the Suns want to do, although any scoring help coming off the bench won't be denied by Phoenix.
