B/R Picks Worst Nightmare for Suns Fans
PHOENIX -- The Phoenix Suns are looking to be nearly unstoppable as the 2023-24 regular season approaches.
The Suns assembled arguably the top trio in basketball over the summer when they acquired Bradley Beal from the Washington Wizards and placed him next to Devin Booker and Kevin Durant.
The Suns have fallen just short in past seasons, though it's clear the talent exists for a championship parade to be held here next June.
That's certainly the expectation after a wild offseason that featured changes on both the roster and coaching staff, though it's hard to find a spot where the Suns didn't improve as a team.
Should Phoenix live up to their potential, the sky is the limit - but what would be the worst-case scenario be?
Injuries, injuries and more injuries, according to Bleacher Report.
B/R Picks Worst Nightmare for Suns Fans
"The Suns have assembled one of the best Big Threes in basketball, most recently acquiring Bradley Beal to team with Kevin Durant and Devin Booker. That's a mountain of offensive ability, accolades and high-end talent," wrote Zach Buckley.
"It's also a trio featuring a pair of 30-somethings, Durant and Beal, who don't exactly have the cleanest injury histories. Durant has played just 137 games over the past three seasons, a stretch directly preceded by an Achilles tear that kept him out of the entire 2019-20 campaign. Beal, meanwhile, has nearly as many games missed (72) as games played (90) over the past to seasons.
"Given the significant injury risk at play, you might assume Phoenix has loaded up its supporting cast with reliable role players. However, since the Suns spent so much on their stars, they've really only managed to put discounted hoopers around them. If someone like Beal or Durant goes down at the wrong time, Phoenix will be in a really tough spot with its title hopes tied to players like Grayson Allen, Josh Okogie, Keita Bates-Diop or Yuta Watanabe."
The Suns seem to like their supporting cast of players, as Okogie/KBD/Watanabe could emerge as a fifth starter in Phoenix. They also seem to like the shooting talents of Eric Gordon and Washington fans were upset when it was revealed Jordan Goodwin was also included in the trade to Phoenix.
The Suns are arguably more deep than the last two seasons, and while nobody is going to play all 82 games, they sure should be confident in one of their top free agent adds stepping up if/when needed.
