Damian Lillard Loves What the Phoenix Suns Have Done
Name a better duo than superstar NBA players and trade requests.
That's the reason the Phoenix Suns were able to land Kevin Durant and Bradley Beal within the last six months, as both wanted out of their previous situation and specifically made Phoenix their target destination.
Current Portland Trail Blazers star Damian Lillard is in a familiar boat, as he finally submitted a trade request after years of trying to make things happen in Portland with not enough success to convince him to remain with the team. In a star-driven league where players are judged for jumping ship too easily, plenty of fans were relieved to see Lillard finally put his foot in the ground.
The reality of modern NBA basketball is stars win championships - the more you have, the better. The Suns have assembled their own "Big 3" of Durant, Beal and Devin Booker - something Lillard himself said he'd be watching this season.
"That's definitely a Big 3," said Lillard [h/t Duane Rankin of the AZ Republic]
"Brad Beal, Book, KD. I mean, that's a monster three. I think it will be fun to watch. They'll win a lot of games and the goal is to win. As players of their level, it just has to click. They've got to connect. It wouldn't surprise me if they did click, but that's the most important thing is being able to click out there and to be able to work together towards winning."
Lillard himself has reportedly chosen the Miami Heat as his next destination, though no movement has occurred just yet. He reportedly won't accept a trade elsewhere.
Whenever he's traded - and wherever he lands - he's excited to watch how Phoenix's star trio plays out.
"It'll be fun to watch. For me, as a fan of basketball and the NBA, and for fans out there, I'm sure it's extremely exciting for them."
