Frank Vogel Reveals What Suns Need in Potential Fifth Starter
The Phoenix Suns are highly expected to be one of the best teams in basketball for the 2023-24 season - and when looking at the roster, it's hard to blame anybody who picks them to win it all.
Stars drive success in this league, and there's certainly no shortage of that in the Valley. Kevin Durant, Devin Booker and Bradley Beal assemble what is one of the NBA's best trios with Deandre Ayton still anchoring the paint in Phoenix.
A variety of key role players from Eric Gordon to Yuta Watanabe arrived via free agency to help round out the rotation, too.
It's not often a championship caliber squad doesn't know who will complete their starting lineup, though that's what new head coach Frank Vogel and his Suns staff will work through as training camp approaches.
Vogel recently did an interview with The Arizona Republic's Duane Rankin and was asked about what he's looking for in the final piece of the starting puzzle:
“I think the one that is going to fit the best, really. We’ll have a lot of guys that have an opportunity to be that fifth guy. The versatility of maybe being able to guard multiple positions or maybe it’s an elite shooter. Maybe it’s just another playmaker," said Vogel.
"I think we have a lot of guys with a lot of different skill sets and we’ll put a lot of different combinations throughout the year, but I think all of those skill sets would fit the four guys you mentioned. We’ll see how it plays out.”
Names such as Keita Bates-Diop and Josh Okogie are believed to be at the top of the list, though Phoenix can interchange that final piece to whatever matchup they deem more favorable.
Preseason action begins on Oct. 8 for Phoenix.
