NBA Analyst Believes Phoenix Would be Top Destination for LeBron James
It's unlikely the Phoenix Suns ever acquire LeBron James, although in the present day NBA, it's truly hard to rule anything out.
Yet James donning a Suns uniform next to Devin Booker seems only possible in NBA 2K, and although recent reports and rumors have begun to swirl surrounding his future after becoming eligible for a two-year contract extension last week, it still simply seems inconceivable James would want to leave Los Angeles for Phoenix.
However, The Ringer's Kevin O'Conner believes if James leaves in any scenario, the Suns should be the favorite destination.
"LeBron is BFFs with Chris Paul and old friends with James Jones. The Suns want Durant. Wouldn’t they also want LeBron? Phoenix is a great city itself, Arizona has lower taxes than California, and it’s just a short flight from Los Angeles," said O'Conner.
"LeBron would get accused of riding coattails, but the Suns fell short in 2020-21, looked beatable in 2021-22, and are getting a little long in the tooth in 2022-23."
He also listed the New York Knicks, Portland Trail Blazers and Cleveland Cavaliers among other potential options, should James want out of Los Angeles.
That seems like a stretch, although he's gone on the record to say he would like to play with his oldest son, Bronny, who would be eligible in the 2024 NBA Draft.
James has already accomplished a lot in his career as an undisputed Hall of Fame player. What more could be left for him to do? There's a small window of Suns fans who would argue bringing a title to Phoenix would strengthen his resume even more.
James is set to become a free agent next offseason.
