Monty Williams Praises Poise After Victory vs. Kings
The Phoenix Suns emerged to 14-6 on Monday night, but it didn't come easy.
The Sacramento Kings have proved to be a tough out for any team thus far, and that was again the case despite Devin Booker dropping 40+ points and tying a career high with six steals on the night.
16 ties were featured in the first half alone, and the fourth quarter offered plenty of lead changes and drama down to the final moments.
Phoenix's last three games have been won by six, one and five points now.
After the game, Monty Williams pointed to the team's chemistry and poise as a large factor in those wins:
“If you look at the way our team is constructed it just has a number of guys who have care and character. I told the bench just now that it’s a tough thing to not know when you are going to play," said Williams.
"Not having a rhythm and to be able to come into the game like Damion Lee did and just step up and knock down shots and make plays. When Cam [Payne] got into foul trouble, I thought that was part of the difference. For Book [Devin Booker] to go for 44 in 40 minutes, third game in four nights, with travel, that’s impressive. We really wanted to win it tonight. So, we could really celebrate DA [DeAndre Ayton] winning player of the week, it was just an appropriate moment. I was really proud of the way we responded.
They scored in bunches in the first half and we just couldn’t figure out the slips. In the third we held them to 20 and I thought that was the difference. It gave us a bit of confidence and they hit some tough shots in the fourth. It’s a really good win because that team is loaded, and they play the right way.
"They play with pace, they share the ball and we knew that they wanted this one after losing a couple. They were sitting here waiting on it, so that was a good win by our ball club.”
The Suns have been tested frequently through the season thus far, and although not every one of those has been passed with flying colors, Phoenix has undoubtedly earned the top spot in the Western Conference as we enter the month of December.
