Report: Suns Willing to Trade First-Round Picks
The Phoenix Suns are ready to go all in.
According to the Athletic’s Shams Charania, the Suns are willing to trade first-round picks and take on expensive contracts in order to acquire more talent to their roster.
While Phoenix has a primarily younger core, it's evident that with an ageing Chris Paul and a team that seems to be unraveling game after game, drastic changes are going to have to occur if they want to keep their championship window alive.
The Suns are currently not in the playoffs as they sit as the twelfth seed in the Western Conference with a record of 22-24. With plenty of basketball left to play this season, Phoenix has time to turn things around but it may take a trade of epic proportions to do so.
Charania also dove into how with new owner Mat Ishbia taking charge, the Suns are expected to take a more aggressive approach, a far cry from the last regime led by Robert Sarver. It was well documented that Sarver was cheap when it came to acquiring players but Ishbia will look to change that for Phoenix.
The Suns might not be playing the best basketball at the moment but it would be foolish of them to gut their roster and start over. It's clear that Phoenix is capable of making a deep run in the playoffs but they may just need one more piece to take them over the hump.
Some players the Suns could look to go after include John Collins, Kyle Kuzma or even Pascal Siakam. One thing these players all have in common is that they can score the basketball at an extremely high level, something Phoenix can use in order to take some pressure off Devin Booker.
The West is as wide open as it has ever been and it could go down to one trade deadline move that decides the outcome of the playoffs. The Suns are only one year removed from owning the best record in the NBA, which proves that they are still a legitimate threat in the playoffs if they are able to make it.
