Suns' Offseason Described as 'Aggressive'
The Phoenix Suns again exited the postseason in earlier-than-anticipated fashion, and swift changes were made from the coaching staff to the roster.
Entering the 2023-24 season, the new-look Suns have again inspired hope throughout the Valley to bring home a franchise first NBA title, mostly thanks to moves made by owner Mat Ishbia and general manager James Jones.
Bleacher Report recently categorized their moves as "aggressive", and quite frankly, there's no better way to describe the recent slate of months.
Greg Swartz: "From the moment he purchased the Phoenix Suns, new team governor Mat Ishbia has been aggressively pursuing a championship.
"Trading almost every remaining first-round pick swap and future second-rounders to get Bradley Beal was yet another high-risk, high-reward move to get the Suns closer to a title, second tax apron be damned.
"With Devin Booker, Durant, Beal, Deandre Ayton and a lot of smart veteran-minimum signings this offseason, Phoenix should finish near the top of the West and be a nightmare in the playoffs. Booker and Durant already set postseason records as teammates with almost no prior experience together, and they now get a full training camp and regular season to build upon their rapport.
"This roster and payroll could be in rough shape in a few years as Durant moves closer to his late 30s, although the current version is championship-worthy."
Not touched on was the hire of Frank Vogel, who is looking to bring a defensive, physically-demanded approaching to a Suns team that already offers plenty of talent on the offensive end.
By dealing Chris Paul and acquiring Bradley Beal on top of their strong free agent class, the Suns hope to have extended their championship window.
