Suns' Plans at Point Guard Revealed

NBA insider Shams Charania says the Phoenix Suns will feature Bradley Beal at point guard.

The Phoenix Suns continued a busy offseason on Sunday morning with a handful of transactions to continue changing the roster. 

As reported by multiple NBA insiders:

- The Suns traded backup PG Cam Payne, a second-round pick and cash considerations to the San Antonio Spurs for a future second-round pick to clear cap space. 

- Phoenix signed free agent big man Bol Bol to a one-year deal

- The Suns also acquired three second-round picks from the Orlando Magic in exchange for a future first-round pick swap

Movement has been a constant with the Suns since owner Mat Ishbia first took over, and now the finishing touches are being put on a roster many expect to win the NBA Finals next season. 

Phoenix has plenty of stars in the starting lineup, as Kevin Durant, Bradley Beal, Devin Booker and Deandre Ayton will take the court for majority of minutes each night. 

With Chris Paul out of the picture, the Suns don't currently have a traditional point guard to handle duties. There's been some talk about Booker honing that role heading into the 2023-24 season, though The Athletic's Shams Charania says Beal will start as the team's point guard.

"Bradley Beal will enter the 2023-24 training camp as the Suns’ projected starter at point guard, league sources tell The Athletic. Team sources tell The Athletic the Suns like Jordan Goodwin as a backup point guard, who was acquired in the Beal trade. There’s $30 million in tax savings for Phoenix by trading Payne," said Charania.

"The Suns have an array of ball-handlers in Beal, Goodwin, Devin Booker, Kevin Durant, Eric Gordon and two-way guard Saben Lee."
