Three Players Suns Could Target in Buyout Market
After the Phoenix Suns traded Mikal Bridges, Cameron Johnson and Jae Crowder for Kevin Durant, two roster spots opened up.
With Durant, the Suns should be the title favorites in the West but need to ensure they sign two players that fit with the pieces that are currently on the roster.
Who are some potential targets Phoenix could go after in the buyout market?
Reggie Jackson
Reggie Jackson is expected to get bought out after getting traded from the Los Angeles Clippers to the Charlotte Hornets.
The 32-year-old is averaging 10.9 points, 2.2 rebound and 3.5 assists. While he is not having his best season, Jackson has proven in the past he can produce offensively at a high level as last year, he averaged 16.8 points.
Cameron Payne has been dealing with injuries all season long so Phoenix could use a more reliable guard like Jackson to help Chris Paul during the playoffs. Jackson could lead the second unit and give them a much needed jolt offensively.
When Payne returns to the lineup, the two guards could play alongside each other giving Phoenix a loaded backcourt on the bench.
John Wall
While John Wall is certainly not in his prime anymore, the little he still has left in the tank could be exactly what Phoenix is looking for.
The Clippers traded Wall to the Houston Rockets and he is expected to be bought out. Wall is yet to win a championship despite an illustrious career so Phoenix could be a perfect place for the 32-year-old to potentially ride off into the sunset.
Injuries have limited him but Wall still shows spurts of the explosiveness he once had. As a backup point guard, adding Wall is a low risk high reward type situation.
Immediately following his trade to the Rockets, rumors started to swirl that the Suns could be interested in his services which makes sense knowing Wall’s track record and what he can bring to the table.
Will Barton
The loss of Mikal Bridges and Cameron Johnson fills a need for another wing shooter.
Will Barton is expected to work out a buyout with the Wizards and may very well be on the Suns radar. Barton is currently averaging 7.7 points, 2.8 rebounds and 2.4 assists.
Phoenix already has a solid wing player in Torrey Craig, but unlike Craig who is primarily just a defensively minded player, Barton is productive on both sides of the ball. Before this year, Barton averaged double digit points for eight straight seasons.
The Suns could be flexible with Barton. They can bring him off the bench and he could be one of the main anchors on the second unit or they could slide him in as the starting small forward helping space the floor for Durant, Booker and company.
Adding Barton is something Phoenix must consider.
