Suns' Big Three Clicking at Right Time
The Phoenix Suns survived a tough battle against a tough - but undermanned Cleveland Cavaliers squad last night - and much of that was thanks to the star trio of Kevin Durant, Devin Booker, and Bradley Beal.
The star trio combined for 88 points in the victory - and the Suns needed every point in a game that started off very poorly - particularly defensively.
They combined to shoot 35-67 from the floor, and Beal/Durant managed to eclipse 60% true shooting percentages.
This contest showed exactly why this trio can hang with virtually anyone over the rigid of a seven-game series - the stars possess a rare combination of shot-making, the ability to playmate across all three levels, and the ability to be adaptable on the defensive side of the ball.
Beal has picked up productivity on both ends of the floor, while Booker and Durant have stayed largely steadfast over the course of the season.
Suns coach Frank Vogel spoke on the big three following the win vs Cleveland:
Phoenix's unique top-end talent approach in an era that now favors a different way of team-building could prove to be advantageous over the next few months - perhaps only the Milwaukee Bucks and Los Angeles Clippers possess a similar level of firepower at the top of the roster.
The Suns' ultimate goal of a championship is still alive, but it is very unlikely to come to fruition without all of Durant/Beal/Booker producing at a high level in every potential playoff series.
The next time the big three will be in action is Thursday evening against the Boston Celtics.
