Shaq Was Open to Buying Suns Until He Saw Jeff Bezos' Name
The Phoenix Suns are up for sale, and it feels as if everybody and their mother is a potential candidate to buy the team.
Beloved Arizona sports legends such as Larry Fitzgerald and Charles Barkley have seen their names thrown around, but what about former Suns center Shaquille O'Neal?
O'Neal, one of the greatest big men in the history of the league, said on the most recent episode of his podcast The Big Podcast With Shaq (h/t Entrepreneur.com) he was interested in purchasing the Suns until he saw a few heavy hitters in competition.
"I was open [to the idea of purchasing the team] until I saw the initials JB. Let me tell you something, you don't mess with James Brown, you don't mess with Jeff Bezos," Shaq said.
"When the boys come on stage, get your ass and go. So, Jeff said he wants it and a couple of other heavy hitters said they want it. I'm not even gonna put my name in the bucket on this one."
O'Neal, who owns countless franchises, indeed would have some spending power with his reported $400 million net worth, although he couldn't swing it on his own as the Suns are preparing to be sold for billions of dollars.
Time will tell who exactly will end up in charge of Phoenix's NBA franchise, but at least we know one major name is taking himself out of the running.
