Terrence Ross Impresses in Suns Debut
The Phoenix Suns have added plenty of talent over the last few days.
The obvious elephant in the room is Kevin Durant, a superstar that is expected to lead the Suns to their first ever NBA championship. TJ Warren - who arrived via trade with Durant - is somebody capable of getting buckets, too.
Darius Bazley is a long body who has yet to play after being acquired in the Dario Saric trade with Oklahoma City, and then, you have Terrence Ross.
Ross was recently bought out of his contract with the Orlando Magic and immediately drew interest from playoff contenders such as the Suns, Dallas Mavericks and Los Angeles Lakers.
Ross isn't the biggest name that arrived in the Valley, but his athleticism and scoring hopes to be something suitable coming off the bench for Devin Booker.
He made his debut last night in Phoenix's loss to the Los Angeles Clippers and scored 16 points on 41.2% shooting, though he went 1-8 from three-point land.
Though it wasn't an all around pretty debut for Ross, his scoring output was still the highest since Jan. 4. He also added four rebounds and four assists in his 25 minutes played.
“Terrence is doing what we want him to do. He’s aggressive to score, he’s solid on defense. Once he understands what we’re doing on defense, he’s going to be a lot better there," said Williams after the loss.
"There were a couple of times where he was in the wrong rotation, but he’ll figure it out once we get some more reps. Offensively, we feel like he’s going to be a guy that can come off the bench and give us some timely scores, take the pressure off the guys who mainly score for us. I like his aggression.”
Aggression is something the Suns could use more of with the second unit, and we've seen it pay dividends with players such as Josh Okogie and Damion Lee.
Perhaps Ross' acquisition won't be up in bright lights with Durant around downtown Phoenix, but his addition to the rotation could pay dividends down the stretch.
