What Terrence Ross Brings to Suns' Rotation
The Phoenix Suns' unofficial pickup of Terrence Ross may not seem like a huge deal on the surface but it could have a major impact on the team as they look to make a deep playoff run.
Everything changed for the Suns when they traded for Kevin Durant last Wednesday. They instantly became one of the most lethal teams in the NBA due to their strong starting lineup headlined by Durant, Devin Booker, Chris Paul and Deandre Ayton.
However, the loss of Cameron Johnson and Mikal Bridges in the Durant trade left a gaping hole for more wing shooters. Ross is the perfect player to fill that void.
Durant, Booker and Paul are all guys that could take up the ball and command an offense while Ayton is a force in the post so Phoenix needs someone that is a consistent three point shooter and plays solid defense, contrary to some opinions.
Ross is a three-point threat that does not need the ball in his hands. He is a proven scorer as before this year, Ross averaged double digit points in four straight seasons for the Orlando Magic. He is currently averaging 8.0 points, 2.0 rebound and 1.3 assists in his prior bench role before reaching a buyout with Orlando.
His 38% success rate from downtown will bode well for a Phoenix bench that lacked lethal shooting in the previous postseason.
Phoenix has the luxury of being flexible with Ross. They could potentially slide him in small-ball lineups to generate more scoring or (more likely) he can come off the bench and potentially be the focal point of the second unit along with names such as Damion Lee and Cameron Payne in the backcourt.
Ross is the perfect piece to help make a Suns team that is already elite even better.
