Game Preview: Can Suns Carry Momentum vs. Nuggets?
One night removed from defeating the defending champion Golden State Warriors, the Phoenix Suns' schedule does not look to be getting any easier. The Suns are set to face off against the Denver Nuggets tonight at 8:00 MST.
After hitting rock bottom during an abysmal six-game losing streak, the Suns defeated the Warriors 125-113 despite playing without Chris Paul, Devin Booker and Deandre Ayton. They may have been able to squeak out a win against a struggling Warriors squad, but that may not be the case when it comes to playing the Nuggets.
The Nuggets are currently sitting at the top of the Western Conference with a record of 27-13. Denver has won their last four-of-five and have proved to be one of the most lethal teams in the NBA.
Without Paul, Booker, Cam Johnson and potentially Ayton who is questionable for tonight's game, the Suns are sure to have an extremely difficult time trying to contain a potent offense that is headlined by back-to-back MVP Nikola Jokic and star point guard Jamal Murray.
The pressure is on Mikal Bridges to ensure the Suns at least put up a fight against the Nuggets. Bridges led the team in last night's game putting up 26 points, which is exactly what the Suns need out of him again tonight.
Phoenix will also need to heavily count on bench players such as Damion Lee, Duane Washington Jr. and Josh Okogie who all played over 25 minutes against the Warriors. With key scoring threats forced to watch from the sideline, the Suns' second unit will need to play big minutes against the Nuggets.
According to SI Sportsbook, the Suns are underdogs tonight with the money line at +600 and the spread at +13 in favor of the Nuggets.
All signs are pointing to a Suns loss, but a scrapy performance last night could spark this injury riddled Suns team. A win in Denver without key pieces of the rotation could be what the Suns need to get back on track and erase some of the bad mojo that has plagued Phoenix as of late.
Will Bridges and the Suns deliver a statement win in the Mile High City? We will have to see what transpires tonight.
