Dennis Schroder Considered Suns Before Joining Lakers
There's no consolation prizes in the free agent market, yet the Phoenix Suns nearly had a coveted prize many sought after.
Guard Dennis Schroder is signing with the Los Angeles Lakers, according to Shams Charania. Schroder previously tried to sign an extension with them but ultimately came short in negotiations.
It was a team friendly deal for the Lakers, who are getting Schroder at a friendly price.
ESPN's Ramona Shelburne says the Darvin Ham connection helped bring Schroder back to LA, as he had been in talks with the Lakers for months.
However, Phoenix was also reportedly in the mix according to Charania.
"Dennis Schröder was deciding between a few teams, the Lakers, the Raptors, as well as the Phoenix Suns, I'm told."
The Suns are still in search of ways to add talent to their roster without sacrificing significant capital. The team previously reached out to the Utah Jazz to see the availability of Bojan Bogdanovic, but no talks have come to fruition quite yet.
Oddly enough, the Lakers are considered to be in the driver's seat for the power forward.
A handful of veteran options still exist if the Phoenix thirsts for a new addition in the backcourt: Eric Bledose, Elfrid Payton, D.J. Augistin, Kemba Walker, Lou Williams and Rajon Rondo.
